In a game between two evenly matched sides, Norwich owed their slender win to a huge defensive shift and desire.
Norwich played with the diagonal gale advantage in the first half but after 15 minutes, neither side had penetrated into the opposition 22. On 17 minutes, however, Harlow got the first try when they chipped ahead and regathered to score in the left corner. The conversion was missed.
On half an hour, after a period of pressure in the Harlow 22, Norwich set up a driving maul from a lineout in the right corner and Ollie Marsters go the ball down. Jake Christian-Goss landed an excellent conversion to give the home side a slender lead.
Norwich scored again after and superb breakout by Eddie Montgomery who almost made it to the line before being hauled down, but Harlow conceded a penalty. Freddie Rawlings took it quickly and Theo Elliott hurled a long pass into the wind out to the left for Dave Micklethwaite to gather and beat one defender to score in the corner. The kick was missed.
Harlow lost a man to the bin for back-chatting the referee and he was joined by Kobe Mardon on the stroke of half time when a Norwich penalty kick to the posts rebounded and he was adjudged to have deliberately knocked the ball on.
Norwich went in 12:5 ahead at half time.
They came out with real determination in the second half and put Harlow under a lot of pressure, earning a penalty in front of the posts. As they were having difficulty breaking down the Harlow defence, Christian-Goss kicked a penalty, their final points of the afternoon.
Harlow used the wind advantage and kicked a long penalty to the corner. Norwich resisted their drives for some time but, conceded a penalty in front of the posts and the visitors kicked the 3 points.
Norwich had a late period of pressure inside Harlow’s 22 and seemed in control but from a turnover, Harlow kicked ahead and Norwich failed to deal with the swirling ball. This put them back down in the Norwich 22 and with time almost up, a penalty near to the line resulted in a score 10 metres in from the left touch.
The kick to level the game was missed, the final whistle blew and Norwich registered their third win of the campaign.
