Holt 29 Norwich 36

This was a classic derby game and one of two halves, Norwich dominating the first before Holt came back strongly in the second.

Norwich scored first following some good interplay between the forwards and backs and Jake Christian-Goss found a hole in the defensive line to go over and then convert his own try.

On 10 minutes Norwich lost Charlie Kerrison to an ankle injury but scored after some patient build-up play on the left, working it back towards the centre where it was popped up for Ollie Marsters to crash over under the posts. Christian-Goss added the conversion.

Holt pulled one back in the right corner from Tom Thrower, after a good period of pressure from the hosts and a grubber kick for him to run onto. The kick was missed.

Norwich had a prolonged period of pressure in the Holt 22 resulting in a penalty near the line. From the resultant 5 metre scrum, Dave Micklethwaite picked up from the base and scored down the blindside in the corner. The kick was missed.

Norwich scored one more before half time when a nice run by Freddie Rawlings was taken forward by James McCaskie who was stopped just short of the line and offloaded for Christian-Goss to score his second.

The score remained at 5-24 at half time with Norwich seemingly in control. Holt, however, came out rejuvenated in the second half and retained the ball very well, depriving the visitors of possession for much of the half.

They scored first through Freddie Papworth after a period of pressure that had a feeling of inevitability about it, touching down to the right of the posts and Thrower converted.

With so little possession, Norwich lost structure and composure at this point and a missed penalty kick to touch was run back at them with interest, camping in the 22 from where Taylor Gowing rumbled over in the left corner after Holt repeatedly battered the Norwich line. The kick was missed.

Norwich finally got their score moving again after they built pressure in the Holt 22 causing the home side to concede penalties near the line. Norwich attacked with the forwards but were held short of the line but the defensive effort had sucked in too many players and the ball was popped up for Theo Elliott to dot down in the left corner. Christian-Goss landed a superb kick from near touch.

Norwich then turned the ball over 30 metres out and Christian-Goss stretched his legs and beat the defenders to score in the same corner. The kick was missed but Holt were far from out of the contest.

Grant McConnell got the ball down near to the Norwich posts after some solid ball retention by his team and the kick from Thrower made it 24:36.

With the game nearly done, Norwich had Kobe Mardon sent to the bin because of the number of Norwich penalties and Papworth got his second in the corner.

The kick was missed and the  whistle went, for Holt to collect two bonus points, their first of the season, which they thoroughly deserved for their second half display.

Norwich have a week off to try and get some of their injured players back for the visit of Harlow.
