Norwich 50 Diss 60

The recently revived Norwich U13s hosted a Diss side in a cracking 10s encounter on lovely autumn morning at Beeston Hyme.

Diss are in a similar position in terms of numbers to Norwich, like us they lost a number of players in the close season and are in the process of re-bulding. It proved to be the perfect match for both teams as there was literally nothing to choose between the two sides.

Norwich started strongly running in a number of tries before Diss rallied and turned the game on its head to lead 30-25 at half time. Norwich seemed to tire a bit towards the end of the half and let the early momentum slip.

The second half started much the same as the first with Norwich responding well to the half time team talk and again running in some tries to regain the lead. A further flurry of tries for both sides resulted in a real sea saw of a game, neither myself or the Diss coach had any idea who was in front, and to be honest to was such a good game of rugby it was irrelevant.

According to the ref Emily, who had an excellent game, the final score was 60-50 to Diss - but the simple fact that we were able to field a team with a match day squad of 13, for the first time this season renders the result irrelevant.

Massive thanks to the boys who were asked to help Diss out, you did the club proud. Tries for Norwich came from Eddie Hume, Tommy Hill, Freddie Rawlings, Louis Fraser and Jai Gate.

This was a great test for a largely inexperienced Norwich side and we will look forward to more fixtures with like minded opposition during the rest of the season - plenty of work to do in training though!

Full time: 50-60
