Diss 24 Norwich 40
Diss 24 Norwich 40
Norwich travelled to Diss where we enjoyed a lovely Autumn morning and for those hungry enough, the full English breakfast that the kitchen provides!! There was one particular family who enjoyed that Sunday morning treat but unfortunately I didn’t get a photo this time.
It was great to see this Diss team rebuilding and in fact they now have a good size squad with lots of new boys. Norwich started very well and played for 15 minutes in the Diss half. The first score was from a ruck where the ball went through the hands of Ollie D, Arthur, Joe and then Tom from the full back position who ran in the try created by putting the extra player in for the overlap. A well worked try. This try was converted by Tom. Next try was scored from Joe Edwards who tested the offside line and ended up making a great interception to score under the posts. Tom Converted the try.
The 3rd try was created again by putting the ball through the hands where it eventually landed with Jack who ran hard down the left wing to score in the corner. Great speed and elusive running. Tom missed the conversion.
A great 15 minutes of dominant play where Norwich controlled the game including in the ruck and scrum. Diss were next to score under the posts which would have been avoided if we got our tackles in hard and low. A great score though and it lifted Diss over the next 20 minutes. Leading into half time the game was generally much more even but a strong break by Alfie through several tackles landed a further try for Norwich. Tom landed the conversion so at half time it was 26-7.
We talked at half time about coming out strong but unfortunately the side who did this was Diss. Over the next 15 minutes Diss scored on 3 occasions and converted 1 of those tries. So at this point it was 26-24. Rather disappointingly one their tries was scored from their own 5M line which came from a Norwich backs move that didn’t go to hand and the Diss lad picked the ball up and just ran. Great speed.
The Norwich boys in the last 10 minutes were motivated after Harvey ran in a solo try from 40 metres out. It was achieved by raw speed! Fantastic try Harvey and by the look of your Instagram post I think you enjoyed it (only joking)!
Norwich sustained control for the rest of the game. A couple of penalties went our way and to keep the pressure on Tom kicked for territory. Eventually the opportunity came for Alvin to use his raw power and from the Diss 22 he powered through several tackles to score left of the posts. Tom converted this final try and so the game ended 40 – 24. Not quite a game of 2 halves but a game where we were dominate for 2 periods at the beginning and the end. Man of the match went to Harvey for his Instagram post – no sorry his great try and work ethic during the whole game.
Lots of positives but as always areas to work on in training. A big well done to Diss for putting pressure on the Norwich team and for providing the after match hospitality. We look forward to hosting you later in the season.
