Match Report

Under 15's at Norfolk 10's

04/10/2018

Under 15's at Norfolk 10's

The Under 15s were privileged to play on the North Walsham 1st XV pitch but took a while to get into their stride. The first match was against a strong Diss 1st team and attempts to tackle their big powerful runners at chest level failed to succeed resulting in a 20 – 0 loss. Our players need to understand that if they tackle high the opposition score but if they chop tackle they fall.

The second match against North Walsham resulted in a 15-0 loss for similar reasons but the players then started to demonstrate their skills. The match against the Diss 2nd team resulted in a 15 – 15 draw with William, Alfie and Josh all scoring tries.

The final match against a strong West Norfolk side also ended in a 15 – 15 draw with Ben scoring two tries and Alfie finishing off a magnificent move which started behind the halfway line and involved excellent handling, running lines and support play from all the players as the ball moved from one side of the pitch to the other.

During the tournament our defence improved considerably and the attack became more penetrative. The scrum won every one of our put in and lineout throw. This was the first match of the season and playing 10-a-side on a full pitch certainly showed who needed to work on their fitness and stamina.

Our new players Jack, Jay, Matthew and William all showed that they would strengthen the team and Harvey showed his pace for the few seconds he was on the pitch before twisting his ankle and knee – we hope to see him back soon.

A good start to the season helping to prepare for the first home match against Diss next Sunday.
