Norwich U9 vs West Norfolk U9 - Match Report
Both teams were a little shell shocked in the first few minutes as the first contact game in their rugby careers unfolded. It was pleasing for all coaches to see all the players warm to the task and get stuck in. Several Norwich players revelled in the task and I will not name them all however I will mention Jake who inside three weeks has become a revelation following his conversion from the round ball game resembling a wrecking ball in attack and defence. Many other players attended having only joined the rugby community in the last four weeks and made excellent contributions.
In summary plenty of positives came from our fixture which gives the players and coaches’ areas for improvement over the season to come.
Editorial note: I love this photo, it says so much about what's good about rugby. I made it the photo of the week in the weekly newsletter.
The under 10’s travelled to Diss for the Prima cup run by Leicester Tigers for the their first competitive matches of the season and their first matches involving rucks, mauls and uncontested scrums. After a slow start in the first couple of games the team started to adapt and understand the new rules and played well against a strong Swaffham team, eventually earning a 2-2 draw. They saved their best for last and beat a good Diss side in the final game 6 tries to 2.
Lots of work still to do at training around the rucks and mauls but the team is starting to show an understanding of some complicated rules that can outfox even the most experienced players. Notable mentions to Billy, Oren and Owen who only joined at the start of the season and have integrated really well into the team. Its back to training this week followed by the West Norfolk festival where hopefully we can continue the good work we showed in the final game against Diss.
Twelve of the U12 lads were warmly welcomed at West Norfolk last Sunday for our first match this season. The team were all geared up and ready to put into practice what has been taught over the last 4 weeks.
We saw some fantastic presentation of the ball by Jack and Teddy with Joseph and Tyrnan stepping up to form the rucks. Conrad led the drives forward making sure his teammates knew when to press. Ewan and Matthew brought energy to the team and were well supported by Daniel and Jude who made some brave challenges.
Jett and George were light on their feet and tried to dodge the opposition but weren’t afraid to make a tackle or two when necessary. Kenzo made sure the team knew where to be for the scrums and found great space on pitch. Well done all to all our lads and thank you to our wonderful parents for their support.
