It is with the greatest sadness that we report the death or Mike ‘Boyo’ Evans who passed away aged 84, unexpectedly in his sleep last night. Mike joined Norwich RFC in the 1960’s when he was stationed locally in the RAF. He played for the club when we were at the Fifers Lane ground and when he retired from playing, was involved in running the 1st XV.

An utterly charming and gentle man, Mike was a hugely popular character at the club and a regular presence at 1st XV games until very recently and much loved by Senior players that had enjoyed his support for many years.
Reflecting on his passing, former President Roy Bishop said “My buddy at the front of the bus when we looked after the First Team together, my buddy when I ran Norwich Colts and always needed a referee, my buddy when we played in the A and Extra A together, my buddy who never forgot my birthday even though I never remembered his, my buddy at the bar. I will miss him terribly.
Deepest sympathy to his wife Maureen and the rest of his family.

Rest in peace, Mike.

At the Norfolk Big Rugby Weekend, Norwich U13 Wildcats won their cup having beaten Lowestoft and Yarmouth 13 tries to 3 and North Walsham 10 tries to 7. Many congratulations to them.

The club would like to extend our best wishes to local hero Tom Youngs on his retirement from rugby. Tom has done his family, his County and Country proud during an illustrious career.

Always generous with his time for any rugby player, he retires at a very difficult period for his family with his wife Tiffany battling serious illness. The thoughts and best wishes of all at Norwich Rugby Club are extended to Tom, Tiffany and the whole Youngs family.

On Sunday 24th April our Colts team beat Diss 25:39 to win the Norfolk Salver. Many congratulations to the squad and coaches.

The Norwich 7's is back for the second year. After the amazing day last year the numbers are building nicely with the fabulous Samurai 7's returning to defend their crown. We will also have three teams from France and one from Switzerland attending so this year will be even more awesome.

There will be live music on the outside stage through the afternoon and into the evening, more excellent food vendors to give you varied choice and some top quality rugby.

There are the serious catagories and social ones for both male and female teams but if you want to submit a team, you'd better hurry. There is overnight camping available for Friday and Saturday nights.

The dedicated website is  https://www.norwich7s.com

The Facebook page that all the new arrivals are announced on  is https://www.facebook.com/Norwich7sfest/
